The Parents’ Parents
I’ve had a new awareness recently. I’ve been thinking, ‘grandparent’ this, ‘grandparent’ that. It’s because for all the years I’ve been discovering and developing and implementing the Power of Respect, parents have been my primary focus.
My work was always with children and their parents. The classes I gave were either for parents or teachers who worked with children. Of course, I thought of grandparents…how could I leave them out?…
I intended to get to writing the book for grandparents…someday. I even thought it out. I even started to write it, but that computer died and all of my work was lost, except for in my mind.
Now following the excellent advice of my coach (I think it’s excellent), I’ve shifted from focusing on reaching parents to reaching out to grandparents. In fact, I am a grandparent of three wonderful grandsons.
Then…suddenly last week…I thought, ‘What have I been thinking?!!?’…
Grandparents are Parents! Of course, they are! In fact they’ve been parents for a lot longer than their kids! They are the ultimate parents!
I don’t know why it took me so long to have this thought…
